Dr. Huang-Lionnet, M.D. Contributing Author to Pain Medicine Textbook
Publishes Research Revealing Potential New Drug Target for Chronic Pain with Johns Hopkins School of Medicine
Julie Huang-Lionnet, MD, Board-certified Anesthesiologist and Interventional Pain Management specialist, has published three book chapters in one of the field’s leading textbooks, “Essentials of Pain Medicine and Regional Anesthesia”. The chapters cover facet syndrome for chronic neck and low back pain, central pain syndrome and myofascial pain.
Dr. Huang-Lionnet was also part of basic science research published in the journal Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences (PNAS) led by Dr. Xingzhong Dong of the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine with a team of basic and clinical scientists from academic medical centers in the United States and China. Their research offers scientists and physicians new information regarding a receptor in the body (Human Mas-related G protein-coupled receptor X1 or MRGPRX1) as a promising target for chronic pain. MRGPRX1 is part of a family of orphan G protein-coupled receptors and are expressed specifically in primary sensory dorsal root ganglia (DRG) neurons. This new development in targeted drug delivery in pain could provide an alternative to opioid therapy in the face of the nation’s opioid crisis.
